Death

Breathe. It is not what you think. The Death meaning upright almost never refers to physical death — it refers to the kind of ending that makes room for everything that comes next. Something in your life has completed its natural cycle: an identity, a relationship, a belief system, a way of being that carried you this far but cannot take you further. The forest fire is terrifying while it burns, but the soil afterward is the most fertile ground on earth. You are being asked to grieve what is leaving without clinging to it. Not because the past was worthless — it was essential — but because you have extracted every lesson it held. Let the old skin fall. The creature underneath has been growing all along.

You already know what needs to end. Death reversed is not confusion — it is refusal. The relationship, the job, the habit, the version of yourself that stopped fitting years ago: you can feel it decomposing, but you keep spraying air freshener and pretending the smell will go away on its own. It will not. What you are clinging to is not the thing itself but the certainty it once represented. The void after letting go feels unsurvivable, so you choose the slow suffocation of staying. But decay does not pause because you ignore it. The longer you resist this transition, the messier and more painful the inevitable ending becomes. Grant yourself permission to mourn and then to move.
